Seekport enters UK market

Mumbai, 21 December 2004 :

Seekport, the innovative European search engine company, has announced the expansion of its operations with the formation of a new UK subsidiary, Seekport Internet Technologies UK Ltd.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Ranjit Dhuru, Chairman and CEO of Aftek said, 'We are pleased with the way things are progressing. Seekport is well on its way to becoming a truly pan-European search engine, right up there with the best in the business.'

'At Seekport we've identified a growing requirement for a new kind of European search engine that bridges the gap between standard Google searches and the Yahoo-powered technology that underpins many portal and search sites,' said Seekport joint Managing Director, Joachim Kreibich. 'At a time when over 50 per cent of online advertising business is generated through sponsored links on search sites, it makes sense for B2B portals to use a search technology that can optimise their performance. That's why we're positioning Seekport as an independent provider of search technology for this sector. We're now looking to build on our initial success in Germany where Seekport is now one of the largest partners of Espotting Media,' added Mr. Kreibich.

'Our research in Germany found that nearly 60 per cent of Internet users were complaining of 'info-junk' in their search engine returns,' commented Hermann Havermann, joint Managing Director of Seekport and Managing Director of Arexera. 'With Seekport we're focused on providing our users with results that are customised to suit their specific language, market and topic requirements. Users are already frustrated by search returns in which every third result is an inappropriate US-sourced item. Our local UK index team will work to ensure that we actively reduce this ratio down to an initial one-in-ten target - and we'll continue to refine our quality over the coming weeks and months,' he added further.

Seekport is majority owned by German knowledge Management company Arexera Information Technologies GmbH alongwith its employees, in which Aftek Ltd. has a 49% stake.

The company's UK search site - www.seekport.co.uk - will provide users with a dramatically higher hit quality through its innovative technology and local quality management. Seekport is unique in supporting its search engine technology with local index teams in each country that focus on the active exclusion of spam from searches and the addition of relevant, country and market-specific content.
